October in Tenerife: a different kind of autumn

October in Tenerife: a different kind of autumn
October changes the rhythm of Tenerife.

Summer slowly gives way to autumn, but the island holds on to its outdoor way of life: bright days, the Atlantic, terraces, mountain roads and landscapes that invite you to spend as little time indoors as possible.

It is a particularly enjoyable time to discover more than Tenerife's beaches.

Head north into green forests and historic towns. Walk through the streets of La Laguna. Drive towards Teide and watch the landscape change completely within a matter of kilometres. Stop in a small village for lunch or simply find somewhere overlooking the ocean and stay until sunset.

October also includes 12 October, Spain's National Day and Día de la Hispanidad, a date with particular resonance in the Canary Islands.

For centuries, the archipelago has occupied a unique position in the Atlantic, creating cultural and historical links between the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and the Americas. Tenerife still carries traces of those connections in its traditions, architecture, music and identity.

Yet you do not need an itinerary to enjoy the island at this time of year.

October is equally suited to exploring and slowing down.

It is a month for walking, eating outside, discovering local celebrations, returning to favourite places and finding completely new ones.

Elsewhere, autumn may mean the end of summer.

In Tenerife, it simply means experiencing the island differently.
